Highlights and Trends from KubeCon 2024 Salt Lake City

Recap of insights and highlights from KubeCon North America 2024 in Salt Lake City.

We just got back from another incredible edition of KubeCon 2024 in Salt Lake City. Here is a recap of what we heard, saw, and look forward to next time.

What is the community talking about?

Kubecon is an event where you see a multitude of solutions and interesting technologies blend together for one goal – to make Kubernetes better. On the heels of the 10-year anniversary of Kubernetes, it was great to see the community grow and have some engaging conversations with the attendees who stopped by the Cast AI booth.

Cost control is a high priority for organizations because Kubernetes is not only new to many teams but also cloud billing and pricing models are daunting. When we explain what Cast AI does, the first reaction typically is, “That is cool! We didn’t know this was possible.” The benefits and flexibility of having services dispersed across different cloud providers were evident when most people said they were on at least two different public cloud platforms. Being cloud-agnostic is an important criterion for cost optimization tools teams can use to reap cost benefits on any cloud.

Here are some highlights from discussions we had:

  • Users need more than recommendation solutions to cut cloud costs, especially now that organizations are getting leaner and more agile.
  • There was a lot of agreement over the fact that the platform approach is better than point solutions.
  • Kubernetes security seems to be a hot topic with varying maturity levels – there were cybersecurity professionals who were curious about runtime security and others who were still new to the concept of scanning container images for vulnerabilities.
  • A few startups who are eagerly trying to develop AI agents and figure out the best LLMs were blown away by AI Enabler, a Cast AI solution aimed at optimizing LLM costs and overall spend on building Gen AI applications.
  • There is high Kubernetes deployment in private data centers and highly regulated government industries (including defense contracts). It was insightful to hear some of their challenges around automation and how there is an opportunity to tap into resource management tools to optimize on-prem clusters.

Container Live Migration and Bubba – the stars of our booth

KubeCon is always buzzing with excitement, and this year we added to the fervor by launching our Container Live Migration feature. Leon, our CTO, took the stage to showcase how containerized workloads—yes, even those stubborn, stateful ones—could be moved across nodes without causing issues.

The Q&A following the demo underscored the industry’s growing demand for solutions that address the challenges of stateful workloads. Container Live Migration became a focal point of many of the conversations we had at KubeCon. And, of course, the other star for Cast AI was Bubba!

What’s next?

We are ending the year with KubeCon 2024 India and AWS re:Invent in December, one of the most anticipated cloud computing events of 2024. As leaders in Kubernetes automation and cost optimization, we’re excited to connect with innovators, cloud enthusiasts, and DevOps experts to showcase how Cast AI simplifies Kubernetes management and reduces cloud costs.

We’re eager to meet new faces, reconnect with partners, and share our latest advancements—including insights into what’s next for Kubernetes workloads. Stop by our booth at KubeCon India and AWS re:Invent to explore how Cast AI can transform your cloud strategy.

Let’s innovate together!
